What do little girls struggle with?

My Story

One of the top struggles for little girls is perfectionism (especially around body image). A huge percentage struggle with this, from as early as 5 yrs old.   Over 50% of little girls struggle with negative beliefs around their worth and identity. That's more than half!

By design, every little girl will seek a place of belonging.  As parents, there's so much we can do to foster a sense of belonging in our girls.  We encourage them, love them, and cultivate their God-given gifts.  That's so important---BUT---the most important thing little girls need to know is that their worth, value, and sense of belonging ultimately come from God.

Even when we do our best to model love and acceptance to our children, their sense of worth must be anchored in God's Word and in the One who Created them.  When little girls know their identity, they will have unshakable confidence and flourish into the Godly women they were created to be!

My earliest memories as a little girl were around fear, shame and a very low self-worth.  I had so much shame around my body and have vivid memories of being fearful about being rejected by peers. The need for approval and acceptance held me back from being the free, fun and unique girl (and eventually woman) God created me to be.  I missed out on so much---playing sports, participating in new things and just being a little girl!

Confident Girl's Cards is so close to my heart because it's my desire that young girls learn God's TRUTH at a young age and not look to a flawed culture for their worth.  I know that when girls come to know who they are, they will be free to take risks, take imperfect action and step out in faith.  They will be free to live their God given purpose and do mighty things for God.

It's my prayer--that as every little girl SEES and SPEAKS these TRUTHS over her life, she would become empowered in her identity and live a life that brings honor and glory to God.

Deuteronomy 6:6 -

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up

  • Be present with your daughter.

  • Ask your daughter open-ended questions as you spend time together.
It's a great way to really HEAR what's in your daughter's heart and
what she may be struggling with.  With technology and social media,
connecting with our kids has become a lost art--take the time to
    have conversation!

    Ideas for conversation...

How does this or how did this scripture challenge you today?
How can you or how did you apply this to your life today?
How does it make you feel, when others leave you out?
Example, re: the scripture on honesty, a question may be,
“What is your biggest challenge in being honest with others?”
